Adrenaline - Jill Clewes Performing Arts
Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on April 28, 2009 9:25 AM
Adrenaline is being performed by Jill Clewes Performing Arts School at the Regent Theatre (Wednesday 29 April - Saturday 2 May) She is bringing some of theatre's finest performers to work with some of the most talented young performers in the area. This is an all round musical theatre experience - you are guaranteed to find something to give you the 'rush' you are looking for! Fast paced - high action.
Michaleen Hilton - who is working on the show says 'It is a great opportunity for local youngsters to work with some of Broadway and West end's finest performers. They have assisted with over 400 young people appearing on stage at The Regent next week. Also some will also be performing alongside the kids which will be great. Having seen most of the rehearsals, its amazing to see how young people progress and I would recommend any parent who's son or daughter want to perform to come along and see what this school has to offer a child of any age, who really wants to go into theatre. I would call it a 'one stop shop' for performing arts. '

Ettiley Heath Playing Field Association
Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on April 15, 2009 8:58 AM
We are a voluntary organisation who, as a committee, are custodians of a playing field that was left to the people of Ettiley Heath some years ago in trust. We are endeavouring to build on the success of several previous committees to ensure that the field is a safe environment that is utilised for recreation, leisure and sport.
During the past year the committee, in liaison with Cheshire Highways and through the generosity of local residents have accomplished quite a lot. The lane that runs parallel to the field, Sandy lane, is now a safe traffic free walk/cycle way and we have created a new entrance and a turning area for vehicles.
We are now turning our attention to the facilities that will be available on the field which range from sporting activities to creating new footpaths and a safe secure play area for little people and their mums and dads.

Swim 21 awarded to Sandbach Sharks new Head Coach
Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on March 13, 2009 8:07 AM
Sandbach Sharks ASC have appointed Carolyn Cowburn as their new head coach.
Carolyn joins the Sharks from Winsford ASC and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm
"My appointment takes us forward into a bright future" said Carolyn after being presented with the recently acquired swim 21 accreditation.
"The club has an enthusiastic committee- a pool full of excited youngsters, and team of teachers and coaches already to move forward.
I have already been approached by Parents offering support and Help.
With all this in mind I am really looking forward to working with the Sharks and making the club the best that we can be."
The Swim21 certificate was presented by Nik Turnbull, the regional Development Officer of Swim Northwest, who highly praised the Shark's achievement, which was due mainly to the efforts of Chairman Mark Davies, and former Chairman Ian Hesketh.
Sharks have worked steadily towards the attainment of a series of goals all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete's development:
Teaching
Skill Development
Competitive Development
Performance

Olympians visit Sandbach Sharks
Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on February 5, 2009 9:08 AM
Sandbach Sharks have recently had a visit from some of the Beijing Team GB swimmers.
Those attending were:
Kerri-ann Payne - the Olympic silver medallist in the 10km open water event, as well as this she also swam in both the 200 and 400 IM, making the semi-final in the 200 IM. Kerri-ann has represented Great Britain at numerous Commonwealth Games and European championships.
James Goddard - the new European champion at 200 IM and is also European bronze medallist in the 100 IM. James was briefly a bronze medallist at the Athens Olympics until a decision to DQ the eventual winner Aaron Peirsol was somewhat dubiously overturned. This unfortunate decision relegated James a multiple Commonwealth Games medallist and British record holder to fourth place.
David Carry - multiple Commonwealth Games medallist for Scotland in both 400 free and IM, He is the also the current British and Scottish record holder for the 400 free. David is a regular Team GB or team Scotland swimmer on the world stage.
The Olympians started with a question and answer session from the Sharks, followed by a warm up, and 'inpool' training session lasting for over an hour. Over 50 Sharks were in attendance, and they were split into 3 groups for the training, each olympian having a group each. These were rotated so that each group got to train with all 3 olympians.
Afterwards, there was another question and answer session, this time for the parents, followed by pictures and autographs.
The session was extremely enjoyable for the children and parents alike. It was great to see everyone taking such an interest with so many questions!

We are the Cheshire branch of GRWE and have been fundraising for approximately five years. We hold events locally and througout the Cheshire and Staffordshire areas. We have recently added Wirral to our list. We raise awareness and funds to help the charity rescue and rehabilitate abused and abandoned greyhounds. Greyhounds make wonderful pets as they are loving, loyal and gentle. So far this year we have re-homed 100 in this region. We are always looking for volunteers to help us fundraise at events. It's a great way to make new friends, develop a new interest or discover new skills whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Editor in Chief Eric Langton (right) is pictured making the presentation to VSO Cheshire chairperson Lynda Shuttleworth watched by Richard Day, principal of English at the Chester Language School (left) who hosted a social evening for returning volunteers and their families, attended by Chester's Lord Mayor Cllr Jim Latham.
The Cheshire Communities website not only lists contact details but also offers organisations the opportunity to put their own news and pictures online.
Eric Langton said: 'I hope that over the next few weeks the site will expand rapidly as all sorts of voluntary organisations, clubs, pressure groups, societies take advantage of lifting their online profiles.
'I am delighted that Voluntary Service Overseas won the camera prize after being drawn out of the hat from the first 20 organisations to register, and can put it to good use to get photographs of their activities onto the Cheshire Communities site.'
