Why do girls do better than boys in school?

In recent years, girls have dominated the GCSE results tables by consistently obtaining higher grades in comparison to boys.

The continuing battle between the sexes in school has led me to ask why are girls beating boys in the classroom? My observations have led to some fascinating discoveries.
