BYPP (Building Young People's Potential)

Posted by Trinity Mirror Cheshire on November 30, 2007 11:42 AM |

Mission statement: To engage, motivate and inspire young people who are struggling today towards brighter futures through holistic learning programmes today for a healthy tomorrow.
BYPP, formerly known as Blacon Young People's Project, which is part of Blacon Community Trust, was opened in 1993 and has been based at the Sports Pavilion on King George Playing Fields ever since. Initially BYPP provided a support service for 16-25 year olds at a time of high youth unemployment. Over the years it has developed in response to the local needs of young people, many of whom have complex needs, and who for a variety of reasons have become excluded from mainstream services.

We currently provide a range of services that include:
Full time Alternative Curriculum - provision for 12 young people (14-16 years) who have been excluded from mainstream education.
ISSP Programme - an education and personal development programme for 12 young people (14-18) who are on Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programmes as an alternative to custody.
Construction/Catering - vocational training programmes for young people (16-25) at entry/level 1.
Hand in Hand - an education and support programme for pregnant teenagers and young mothers that focuses on both parenting skills and the personal development of the mother as a young person in her own right.
Broadening Horizons - a programme of activities which include Staying Safe on the Street, Sex and Respect, Street Law, Boot Camp residentials, Community Sports, Counselling, Anger Management, Health and Safety, Emergency First Aid, Junction 17 Driving and Outdoor Pursuits.
